Awami League leader held with 25 tones of rice
An Awami League leader of Joypurhat was arrested with illegally stored over 25 tones of rice on Saturday.
RAB-5 issued a press release from its Joypurhat camp on Saturday (April 11) night regarding the arrest.
The arrested AL leader was identified as Al Israel alias Zubel, 49, president of Gopinathpur union Awami League unit in Akkelpur Upazila of Joypurhat district. He was the son of late Nazir Uddin Ahmed of Gopinathpur union.
According to the RAB source, a team of RAB-5 under Joypurhat camp conducted a drive on the basis of secret information in Gopinathpur market area at around 5:00 pm on Saturday. During the drive, they caught Zubel red-handed with 25,440 kgs of rice allocated for different public projects in a godown owned by him.
In a primary investigation, Al Israel alias Zubel admitted that he illegally collected those rice allocated for different development projects of the government and stored to sell them at a high price later.
Company commander Additional Police super MM Mohaiminur Rashid who led the drive said detained Zubel was handed over to the police and a case has been filed with Akkelpur police station.
