2 Awami League leaders held with 168 sacks of rice in Bagura

Two Awami League leaders with 168 sacks of rice, weighing 8,400 kg, meant for open market sales (OMS) from a house and warehouse held by Rapid Action Battalion on Saturday night arrested in Nandigram Upazila of Bogura.

The arrestees are identified as Anisur Rahman Anis, general secretary of Upazila Awami League, son of late Munsur Rahman, hailing from Shimla Bazar area in Nandigram Upazila and his associate Anser Ali, president of Awami League in Nandigram Sadar union ward no 4, son of late Kajem Uddin, from Taratia village of the same Upazila.

ASP Rawson Ali, acting company commander of RAB-12 in Bagura, said a team of the elite force conducted the drive on information that Anisur had collected 168 sacks of OMS rice, supposed to be sold at Tk 10 per kg, for selling it in the black market.

Of the 168 sacks of rice, 58 sacks were seized from Anisur’s house while 110 were recovered from his abandoned warehouse in the upazila’s Simla Bazar area, he said.

A case was filed against them with Nandigram Police Station, he added.
