BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “BNP does not believe in any terrorism, it believes in democracy and so that is still participating in every election.”

He made the remarks at a protest rally in front of the Jatia Press Club on Saturday (November 14) against the Awami League’s vote-rigging in the Dhaka-18 and Sirajganj-1 by-elections.

Fakhrul said that the ruling government has purposely ruined the electoral system. They have ruined not only the electoral system, but also the democratic system. The Election Commission has become an incompetent institution.

He said, “People’s confidence in the current election commission has come down to zero. Evidence of this was found in the presence of the people at the polling station.”

Mirza Fakhrul said, “We have been sawing in the by-election of Dhaka-18 constituency. Despite showing so much fear, they could not achieve more than 14 percent of the vote.”

The BNP leader said, “This government has imprisoned Begum Khaleda Zia. More than one lakh cases have been filed and more than 35 lakh party leaders and activists have been charged in those cases.”
